Your skills are transferable.
But only if you translate them.

TRANSFERABLE is the workshop for PhDs ready for an industry career.

Uncover your transferable skills and fix your applications so you can start landing interviews, fast.

(without removing "PhD" from your resume)

You spent a decade becoming an expert in your field. But hiring managers don't seem to care.

Deciding to leave academia was hard enough. The 2025 industry job market feels even harder.

You've been called "overqualified" and "underqualified." Rejection emails keep arriving in your inbox. And now, you're questioning whether your PhD was even worth it.

Rejections feel awful.

Especially when you have a PhD.

(Seriously, I have a degree conferred to < 1% of the world's population. Why will no one interview me??)

You know your applications aren't working, but you don't know why...

You want to fix your applications so you can land an industry job. And you've tried:

You've spent hours (and hours) carefully tailoring your application materials for each job ad.

You've submitted dozens of applications to all kinds of jobs (including jobs that you don't really want).

You've tried to follow all of the (conflicting) advice from LinkedIn posts, blogs, books, and coffee chats.

You've asked other people to look at your application materials - they said it "looks fine".

You've even tried copying other people's resumes, sometimes word-for-word to make sure you're doing it right.

Despite all that... still no interviews.

(Honestly, you're not really sure why anyone would hire you outside of academia)

So, what now?

You can keep applying for jobs and hope for the best. Or you could pay $500 to $1000+ for a resume writer who has never worked with PhDs before.

Or, there's a (secret) third option...

Companies hire people for their skills.

The more in-demand your skills, the more someone will pay for them.

If you're a highly-skilled PhD (which you are) and you’re not landing interviews, it's because you haven’t clearly communicated why someone should hire you.

Because your skills are TRANSFERABLE.

But only if you TRANSLATE them.

The animation adds a dynamic effect, reinforcing themes of collaboration, support, and skills.

Identify all of your transferable skills that you learned in academia

WHY IT WORKS

Language connects us. And shapes our perception.

A LinkedIn post by Ashley Ruba, PhD, featuring a profile picture of a person with short dark hair wearing sunflower-shaped earrings. The post, made seven months ago, has the tagline: "Exploring life after academia & sharing what I find." The main text of the post reads:

"Why don't hiring managers give PhDs a chance? Because we're speaking two different languages..."

The post has received 12,449 reactions, 783 comments, and 640 reposts, with a total of 6,094,018 impressions. The bottom right corner includes a "View analytics" link. The post appears to discuss the disconnect between PhDs and hiring managers in non-academic job markets.

I know a thing or two about language. For over a decade, I studied how labels shape our perception of other people. Along the way, I published 15 first-author papers and tutored over 600 students in academic writing.

I mastered the language of academia.

But when it came time to leave the ivory tower, I knew that I needed to learn a new language: the language of industry. I needed to translate my academic expertise into language that hiring managers would actually understand.

It worked. No one has ever called me "overqualified" (or "underqualified").

In fact, I've landed a new role every year since 2022, in < 8 weeks each. I've worked in consulting, tech, and healthcare, at some of the biggest companies in the world. I even built my own professional coaching business.

I'm your industry insider and academic translator.

I created TRANSFERABLE to show you exactly how to fix your applications, so you can start landing interviews, fast. Because I've understand how (and why) hiring happens.

And it's not something you'll learn in academia.

But don't take my word for it...
